Description
UNI-T LM70A Laser Distance Meter
The UNI-T LM70A is a compact laser distance meter designed for fast and accurate distance measurements up to 70 m, as well as automatic area, volume and indirect distance calculations. It is suitable for construction, renovation, installation, interior planning, property measurement and a wide range of technical applications.
Instead of repeatedly using a conventional tape measure, the user can point the laser at the target surface and obtain the required distance directly on the display. Built-in calculation modes can determine area, volume and dimensions that cannot conveniently be measured directly, while the internal memory stores up to 99 groups of measurement data.
Main advantages and functions
- 📏 Measuring range up to 70 m – suitable for rooms, construction areas, installation and finishing work.
- Accuracy ±(2 mm + 5 × 10⁻⁵D) – intended for accurate general and professional measurements; D represents the actual measured distance.
- Minimum display unit 0.001 m (1 mm) – measurement results are displayed in millimetre increments.
- Single and continuous measurement – measure one fixed distance or monitor a changing distance in real time.
- MIN/MAX function – displays the minimum and maximum values recorded during continuous measurement.
- Automatic area calculation – measure length and width and the instrument calculates the area.
- Automatic volume calculation – length, width and height measurements are used to calculate volume.
- Pythagorean measurement – four indirect measurement modes help determine heights or other dimensions where a direct measurement is difficult.
- Addition and subtraction – measured distances can be added or subtracted; area and volume calculations can also be combined.
- Memory for up to 99 data groups – stored results can be reviewed without repeating the measurement.
- Front/rear measuring reference – the user can select whether measurement starts from the front or rear edge of the instrument.
- m / ft / in units – supports metric and imperial measurement systems.
- Self-calibration – the manual provides an adjustment range of −9 to +9 mm for correcting measurement offset.
- Built-in physical bubble level – assists with positioning the instrument during measurement.
- 2.0-inch LCD – provides a clear primary reading together with supporting calculation data.
- Automatic power saving – according to the current UNI-T Global specification, the laser switches off after approximately 30 seconds and the instrument after approximately 3 minutes of inactivity.
Applications and operation
The LM70A is suitable for:
- measuring room length, width and height;
- calculating floor, wall and ceiling areas;
- determining room or structure volume;
- furniture and equipment installation;
- construction and renovation;
- interior planning;
- property measurement;
- engineering inspection and maintenance;
- indirect height or distance measurements using Pythagorean functions.
For a standard measurement, point the instrument towards the target surface. The laser dot indicates the target position and the measured distance is shown on the LCD after measurement.
In area, volume and indirect measurement modes, the instrument guides the user through the required sequence of distance measurements and calculates the final result automatically.
Compatibility and measurement modes
The LM70A is a stand-alone measuring instrument and does not require a smartphone, computer or application.
Supported functions include:
- metres (m);
- feet (ft);
- inches (in);
- front or rear measuring reference;
- single measurement;
- continuous measurement;
- MIN/MAX readings;
- area calculation;
- volume calculation;
- Pythagorean indirect measurement;
- addition and subtraction;
- internal measurement memory.
Bluetooth or other wireless data communication is not provided for the LM70A. Measurement results are stored in the instrument's internal memory.

Construction and design
The LM70A features a compact handheld housing, LCD display and physical bubble level. Its red and grey body is designed for portable one-handed measurement and convenient use alongside other construction and measuring tools.
The manufacturer does not specify the exact housing polymer or an IP protection rating, so the instrument should not be assumed to be waterproof or dustproof unless this is specifically confirmed for the supplied version.
Important operating notes
Class 2 laser product. Do not point the laser beam towards people's eyes and do not look directly into the laser beam.
Measurement performance may be affected by:
- strong direct sunlight;
- surfaces with very low reflectivity;
- highly reflective surfaces;
- significant ambient temperature changes;
- low battery condition;
- unstable positioning of the instrument.
Under difficult measuring conditions, the manufacturer recommends using a suitable reflective target to improve signal reception.
For Pythagorean measurements, all required measurements should be taken from the same reference point. Changing the measuring position between individual measurements can produce an incorrect calculated result.
The instrument uses 2 × 1.5 V AAA alkaline batteries. Remove the batteries if the instrument will not be used for an extended period.
