Description
UNI-T UT673A Automotive Battery Tester, 12 V, 3–250 Ah, CCA 40–2000 A
The UNI-T UT673A is designed for testing the condition of 12 V lead-acid automotive starting batteries and for checking 12/24 V vehicle cranking and charging systems. It displays battery voltage, internal resistance, state of charge (SOC), state of health (SOH) and measured cold-cranking capability. Its four-terminal Kelvin test method and support for multiple battery rating standards allow testing without removing the battery from the vehicle.
Key specifications: 12 V battery test 7–16 V DC • 12/24 V cranking and charging system test 7–30 V DC • 3–250 Ah • CCA 40–2000 A • four-terminal Kelvin test
Key advantages
- 12 V starting-battery test – allows the condition of an automotive lead-acid battery to be assessed without removing it from the vehicle.
- 12/24 V cranking-system test – helps evaluate the vehicle starter and cranking system.
- 12/24 V charging-system test – checks charging-system and alternator operation, including charging-voltage and ripple evaluation.
- SOC and SOH indication – displays state of charge and battery state of health.
- Internal-resistance measurement – provides additional information about battery condition; the manufacturer specifies an internal-resistance measurement accuracy of ±(1% rdg + 6 dgt).
- Four-terminal Kelvin measurement – dual-conductor Kelvin clamps help reduce the influence of lead and contact resistance.
- 10 battery rating standards / modes – supports CCA, BCI, CA, MCA, JIS, DIN, IEC, EN, SAE and AH.
- Multiple lead-acid battery types – supports conventional lead-acid, AGM flat plate, AGM spiral, GEL and EFB batteries.
- Reverse-connection and overvoltage protection – also provides a poor-contact warning.
- Colour LED result indication – UT673A supplements the display result with visual LED indication.
Applications
The UT673A is intended for checking automotive starting batteries, routine vehicle maintenance and basic fault diagnosis. It can be used before winter, after a vehicle has been parked for an extended period, when engine starting becomes difficult, or when the starter and alternator systems need to be checked.
It is suitable for vehicle owners, maintenance technicians, automotive workshops and other users who need a quick assessment of a 12 V starting battery and a 12/24 V vehicle starting/charging system.
Compatibility and limitations
- The battery-health test is intended for 12 V lead-acid starting batteries.
- Supported battery types are conventional lead-acid, AGM flat plate, AGM spiral, GEL and EFB.
- The 24 V capability applies to vehicle cranking and charging-system testing, not to a standalone 24 V battery-health test.
- Lithium-battery support is not specified by the manufacturer; therefore the UT673A should not be treated as a lithium-battery tester.
- Normal testing cannot be performed if the connected battery voltage is below 7.0 V.
- UT673A does not provide USB data transfer or a built-in printer. These functions are available on the UT675A.
- Menu languages are English and Chinese.

Design and operation
The UT673A uses a 128 × 64 monochrome dot-matrix display, push-button menu control and colour LED result indication. The main menu provides battery testing, cranking-system testing, charging-system testing, previous-result viewing and settings.
The tester uses dual-conductor, four-terminal Kelvin battery clamps and can perform testing without removing the battery from the vehicle.
Important operating and safety notes
- Perform the battery-health test with the engine switched off and observe correct polarity: connect the red clamp to the positive terminal and the black clamp to the negative terminal.
- During cranking and charging-system tests, start the engine only when instructed by the tester.
- A heavily discharged battery may produce an unreliable initial assessment. The manufacturer recommends charging such a battery correctly and repeating the test.
- Do not use the tester in humid, explosive or flammable environments.
- Keep the tester and contact surfaces clean and dry.
- Do not open the tester enclosure or operate the unit with a damaged or open enclosure.
