Description
UNI-T UT118C Pen-Type Digital Multimeter, True RMS, 600 V, NCV
The UNI-T UT118C is a compact 6000-count pen-type digital multimeter intended for electrical and electronic troubleshooting, household appliance repair and DIY applications. It measures AC/DC voltage, resistance, capacitance, frequency and duty cycle, performs diode and continuity tests, and provides NCV non-contact voltage detection and LIVE wire identification. True RMS measurement, a slim body, an ultra-sharp probe and a built-in flashlight make it particularly convenient for measurements in confined or poorly illuminated areas.
Key specifications: True RMS • AC/DC up to 600 V • 6000 counts • 60 MΩ • 60 mF • NCV/LIVE • CAT III 600 V / CAT IV 300 V
Key features and benefits
- True RMS AC voltage measurement – supports accurate AC measurements, including non-sinusoidal waveforms within the crest-factor and accuracy conditions specified by the manufacturer.
- AC and DC voltage measurement up to 600 V – automatic 6.000 V, 60.00 V and 600.0 V ranges.
- Resistance measurement up to 60 MΩ – suitable for checking components, conductors and electrical/electronic circuits.
- Capacitance measurement up to 60 mF – six ranges from 600.0 nF to 60.00 mF for testing a wide range of capacitors.
- NCV and LIVE functions – NCV provides non-contact AC voltage detection from 45 to 600 V, while LIVE mode is intended for identifying a live mains conductor.
- Automatic continuity/resistance/diode identification – Scan mode can automatically recognize these three types of measurement.
- Frequency and duty-cycle measurement – frequency measurement range from 10 Hz to 1 MHz and duty cycle from 0.1% to 99.9%.
- Data Hold, LCD backlight and flashlight – useful when taking measurements in difficult-to-access or poorly lit locations.
- Adjustable ultra-sharp probe tip – helps reach small contacts and densely populated PCB test points.
- Automatic power-off – switches the meter off after approximately 15 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery power and can be disabled when required.
Applications
The UT118C is suitable for household electrical appliance troubleshooting, electrical installation checks, electronic circuit and component measurements, maintenance tasks and DIY projects. Its pen-style construction is particularly useful where a conventional handheld multimeter is inconvenient or where small test points need to be reached precisely.
UNI-T positions the model for household appliance repair and DIY users. Its electrical specifications and safety ratings may also be useful for technical maintenance tasks when the circuit and measurement conditions fall within the specified limits.
Compatibility and limitations
- The meter operates as a standalone measuring instrument using its integral probe and COM test lead.
- The UT118C does not provide a current-measurement function; no current ranges are specified by the manufacturer.
- Temperature measurement is not provided.
- NCV detection is an indication only. A negative NCV result must not be treated as proof that a conductor is de-energized.
- The applicable voltage and measurement-category limits of the meter and the actual probe configuration must not be exceeded.

Accuracy conditions: accuracy is specified as ±(% of reading + least-significant digits). The manufacturer's reference conditions are approximately 23 ±5 °C and ≤75% RH. The stated accuracy applies within the specified 18–28 °C temperature conditions; outside this range the manufacturer specifies an additional temperature-coefficient error.
Construction and controls
The UT118C incorporates an integral V-end probe, protective probe cap, finger guard, rotary function selector, control buttons, LCD and a separate COM terminal for the second test lead. A probe holder and test-lead slot are built into the body for convenient storage.
The ultra-sharp gold-plated probe is intended for precise contact with densely spaced PCB points. The exposed probe-tip length is adjustable in two positions. The meter also incorporates dual-colour indication, an LCD backlight and a built-in flashlight.
Important safety and operating notes
- Do not exceed the 600 V rated measurement voltage or the applicable CAT rating.
- Before measuring a potentially hazardous voltage, verify correct meter operation on a known voltage source.
- Extra caution is required above 30 V AC RMS / 42.4 V peak or 60 V DC.
- Before resistance, continuity, diode or capacitance measurements, disconnect power from the circuit and fully discharge all capacitors.
- NCV works by detecting an electromagnetic field. Failure to detect a field does not prove that the conductor is de-energized.
- Use the probe cap and probe-tip exposure setting in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and the measurement category applicable to that configuration.
- Do not use the instrument if the case, test lead or probe insulation is damaged.
