Description
UNI-T UT582+ Digital RCD (ELCB) Tester, AUTO RAMP, CAT III 600 V
The UNI-T UT582+ is a digital RCD (ELCB) tester designed to verify whether a residual-current protective device trips correctly and to measure its trip time and, in AUTO RAMP mode, its trip current. It is intended for single-phase 230 V electrical circuits and provides selectable nominal RCD currents of 10, 20, 30, 100, 300 and 500 mA. The instrument can also measure 30–600 V AC voltage and display frequency from 45 to 65 Hz.
Key parameters: RCD 10/20/30/100/300/500 mA • ×1/2, ×1, ×5 and AUTO RAMP • 0° / 180° phase • 30–600 V AC • CAT III 600 V
Main features and benefits
- Four RCD test modes – ×1/2, ×1, ×5 and AUTO RAMP – allow verification that the RCD does not trip at half rated current and trips correctly at rated or increased test current.
- AUTO RAMP function – automatically increases test current from 20% to 110% of the selected IΔn in 10% steps to determine the RCD trip current and trip time.
- Selectable nominal RCD current – 10, 20, 30, 100, 300 or 500 mA depending on the selected test mode.
- 0° and 180° phase-angle selection – allows the test to start on either the positive or negative half-cycle for comparison of trip times.
- 25 V / 50 V contact-voltage limit – if the selected contact-voltage limit is exceeded, the tester displays a warning and stops the RCD test.
- Wiring check – L-PE, L-N and N-PE indications on the LCD help identify incorrect line, neutral or protective-earth connections before testing.
- 30–600 V AC voltage measurement – enables checking of L-N or L-PE mains voltage.
- 45–65 Hz frequency indication – frequency can be displayed in VOLTS mode; the manufacturer specifies the frequency indication as reference information only.
- LCD backlight and Data Hold – improve readability and allow the measurement result to remain on the display.
- Auto power-off and audible warnings – the instrument switches off automatically after approximately 5 minutes of inactivity and provides operating/disconnection warning indications.
Applications and intended use
The UT582+ is intended for testing RCD protective devices in single-phase 230 V electrical circuits. It can measure RCD trip time at different test-current multiples, determine trip current using AUTO RAMP, check circuit wiring status and measure mains voltage and frequency.
It is suitable for electrical installation, inspection and maintenance work. The manufacturer's manual specifies that the instrument is to be operated by trained and qualified personnel.
Compatibility and limitations
- The RCD test function is intended for single-phase 230 V / 50 Hz circuits with an actual supply voltage of 195–253 V.
- Available nominal IΔn settings are 10, 20, 30, 100, 300 and 500 mA, depending on the selected mode.
- ×5 testing is available only for 10, 20 and 30 mA RCD settings.
- The 500 mA ×1 test has a maximum test time of 300 ms rather than 1000 ms.
- The reviewed official UNI-T documentation does not specify compatibility by RCD waveform type such as AC, A, F or B. Where type-specific compliance testing is required, the requirements of the particular RCD and applicable standard should be checked before selecting the instrument.
- The instrument is not intended for long-term continuous RCD testing on production lines; the manufacturer specifies it for sampling/precision testing.
- High-current 300 mA and 500 mA tests may only be carried out once every 5 minutes.

Construction and controls
The UT582+ has an LCD display, rotary function selector and dedicated controls for nominal RCD current, phase/contact-voltage limit and TEST operation. In VOLTS mode, the keys can be used to select L-N or L-PE voltage indication, switch between voltage and frequency display and activate the LCD backlight.
Separate L, E and N test terminals are provided. A three-terminal lead is used for RCD testing, while separate CAT III 600 V test leads may be used for voltage measurements.
Important operating and safety notes
- Verify correct L, N and PE wiring before carrying out an RCD test.
- If the wiring indication shows an incorrect connection, do not operate the TEST function until the wiring fault has been corrected.
- Do not touch exposed metal parts or test conductors during measurement.
- For voltage measurements, the manufacturer specifies test leads meeting CAT III 600 V and IEC 61010-031 requirements.
- Disconnect the test leads from the circuit immediately after completing an RCD test.
- Internal components can become hot during repeated testing.
- High-current 300 mA and 500 mA tests may only be performed once every 5 minutes.
