Description
UNI-T UT58C Digital Multimeter, 1000 V DC, 20 A, Temperature and Frequency
UNI-T UT58C is a manual-ranging digital multimeter designed for general electrical and electronics measurements. It measures AC/DC voltage and current, resistance, capacitance, frequency and temperature, and also provides diode, continuity and transistor hFE testing. Its large 60 × 54 mm LCD, Data Hold function and test-lead connection indication make routine measurements easier.
Key specifications:
DC up to 1000 V • AC up to 750 V • AC/DC current up to 20 A • -40...+1000 °C • frequency up to 20 kHz • 1999 counts
Key features and benefits
- Wide range of electrical measurements – measures DC/AC voltage, DC/AC current and resistance for general electrical and electronic troubleshooting.
- Capacitance measurement up to 100 µF – suitable for checking capacitors; in the 100 µF range, readings at ≥40 µF are specified by the manufacturer as reference only.
- Temperature measurement from -40 °C to +1000 °C – supports K-type thermocouples. The supplied point-contact temperature probe is intended for measurements up to 230 °C.
- Frequency measurement up to 20 kHz – 2 kHz and 20 kHz ranges are provided for low-frequency electronic signals.
- 20 A AC/DC current range – enables short-duration high-current measurements; measurements at 20 A are limited to 10 seconds with an interval of more than 15 minutes between measurements.
- Diode and continuity testing – the buzzer sounds continuously at ≤10 Ω and does not sound at >70 Ω.
- Transistor hFE test – allows approximate checking of bipolar transistor current gain using the multi-purpose socket.
- Data Hold – freezes the displayed measurement value for convenient reading.
- Manual ranging – allows the user to select the required range and resolution directly.
- Overload protection and lead-connection indication – provides manufacturer-specified input protection and visual guidance for test-lead connections.
Applications
The UNI-T UT58C is suitable for electrical and electronics troubleshooting, household electrical checks, component testing, repair and maintenance work, education and general laboratory measurements.
It is particularly useful when temperature, capacitance, frequency, diode or transistor testing is required in addition to standard voltage, current and resistance measurements.
Compatibility and limitations
- Measurement ranges are selected manually; the meter does not provide autoranging.
- AC measurement uses an average-responding (AVG) method calibrated to the RMS value of a sine wave; it is not a True RMS meter.
- AC voltage frequency response: 40 Hz–1 kHz below 500 V and 40 Hz–400 Hz above 500 V.
- AC current frequency response: 40 Hz–400 Hz.
- 20 A AC/DC measurements are limited to 10 seconds, with more than 15 minutes between measurements.
- During current measurements, the open-circuit voltage between the measurement points and ground must not exceed 250 V.
- The supplied K-type point-contact probe is intended for temperatures up to 230 °C. A suitable K-type probe is required to use the full -40...+1000 °C meter range.
- No True RMS, autoranging, Bluetooth or USB data interface.

Important safety and operating notes
- Designed to IEC 61010 requirements for CAT II 1000 V / CAT III 600 V, Pollution Degree 2 and double insulation.
- Do not attempt to measure voltages above 1000 V.
- Extra caution is required above 60 V DC or 30 V RMS AC due to electric shock hazard.
- Disconnect circuit power and discharge high-voltage capacitors before resistance, capacitance, diode or continuity testing.
- Before current measurements, switch off circuit power and check the meter fuse.
- At 20 A, measure for no more than 10 seconds and allow more than 15 minutes between measurements.
- Replace the battery when the low-battery indicator appears, as a weak battery may cause incorrect readings.
