Description
UNI-T UT334A Ionizing Radiation Dose Tester, X/β/γ, GM Counter
The UNI-T UT334A is a compact ionizing radiation dose tester designed to detect and monitor X-ray, beta (β), and gamma (γ) radiation. It uses a GM (Geiger-Müller) counter tube and displays real-time, average, and accumulated dose values. Adjustable audible and visual alarm thresholds, scheduled measurements, and storage for up to 10 measurement records make it suitable for periodic radiation monitoring and personal dose supervision.
Key specifications: X, β and γ radiation • GM counter tube • 0.05 µSv–50 mSv • −17%…+25% based on ¹³⁷Cs γ • 2.0" TFT display • Type-C
Key advantages
- X, β and γ radiation detection – enables several common types of ionizing radiation to be monitored with one portable instrument.
- GM counter tube – a sensitive detector intended for registering ionizing radiation.
- Real-time, average and cumulative dose indication – allows the user to assess current radiation, its average value and the accumulated dose.
- Adjustable alarm thresholds – dose and cumulative-dose alarm limits can be configured; audible and visual alarms are activated when the limits are reached.
- Scheduled measurement – measurement duration can be set from 00 to 999 hours, with a configurable delayed start.
- Up to 10 stored measurement records – scheduled measurement results are stored automatically; when the storage limit is reached, a new record replaces an older one.
- 2.0-inch TFT colour display – clearly presents measurement and setup information.
- Selectable µSv / µGy units – measurement units can be switched in the instrument menu.
- Built-in clock and calendar – the clock continues running when the instrument is switched off, allowing stored measurements to be associated with their measurement time.
- Rechargeable 1800 mAh Li-ion battery – the manufacturer specifies approximately 20 days of operation during continuous measurement with the particle sound disabled.
Applications
The UT334A is intended for monitoring ionizing radiation levels and accumulated dose. UNI-T lists applications including building-material and indoor checks, radiation-processing facilities, radiation safety monitoring, radiotherapy environments, geological surveys, scrap-metal inspection, petrochemical facilities, nuclear laboratories, nuclear power plants, import/export inspection and other environments where ionizing radiation may be present.
The instrument may also be used for personal radiation-dose supervision. It is a portable monitoring and warning instrument and does not replace specialised laboratory or metrologically certified radiation-monitoring equipment where such equipment is required by regulations or a particular measurement procedure.
Compatibility and limitations
- Detects X, β and γ radiation.
- Measurement units can be switched between µSv and µGy.
- Menu languages: English and Chinese.
- Charging via Type-C.
- The manufacturer does not specify Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or a PC data-transfer interface.
- Stores up to 10 scheduled-measurement history records.
- According to the manufacturer, X-ray measurement is intended only as a reference for assessing radiation intensity and does not meet the required energy-response characteristics.
- Protection rating is IP40; the instrument is not water-resistant and must not be wetted or splashed.

Construction and controls
The UT334A features a 2.0-inch colour TFT display and three-button operation. Its menu provides access to measurement, scheduled measurement, stored records, alarm settings, measurement units, sound settings, clock, screen sleep and automatic shutdown functions.
The instrument can produce a sound for individual detected particles. Disabling this function reduces battery consumption. Screen brightness, screen sleep time and automatic shutdown time are adjustable.
Important operating and safety notes
- IP40 does not provide water protection; the instrument must not be wetted or exposed to splashes.
- Do not use the instrument in environments containing explosive or flammable gases or dust.
- The manufacturer states that X-ray readings are intended only as a reference for radiation-intensity assessment, because the instrument does not meet the required X-ray energy-response characteristics.
- If “Device damaged” appears on the display, do not use the instrument in areas with strong radiation.
- If the instrument is dropped, verify that the readings remain normal and update correctly.
- Recharge the battery when its charge level is low to maintain measurement accuracy.
- Enabling the particle sound reduces battery life.
- For long-term storage, the manufacturer recommends fully charging and switching off the instrument and recharging the battery at least every 12 months.
