UNI-T UT336B Refrigerant Leak Detector, 3 g/a, CFC/HCFC/HFC

The UNI-T UT336B is an electronic refrigerant leak detector equipped with a high-sensitivity semiconductor sensor for detecting and locating leaks in refrigeration and air-conditioning systems. It detects halogenated refrigerants from the CFC, HCFC and HFC groups and provides 6 adjustable sensitivity levels together with 6-level audible and visual alarm indication. A flexible probe with a colour-changing indicator helps locate leaks in difficult-to-access areas.

Key specifications:
semiconductor sensor • maximum sensitivity 3 g/a • CFC / HCFC / HFC • 6 sensitivity levels • audible and visual alarm

Key advantages

  • Semiconductor sensor – designed for detecting small leaks of halogenated refrigerants in refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.
  • Maximum sensitivity of 3 g/a – the maximum sensitivity specified by the manufacturer for the UT336B, suitable for locating small refrigerant leaks.
  • 6 sensitivity levels – sensitivity can be adjusted according to refrigerant concentration and the particular leak detection situation.
  • 6-level visual alarm – yellow, orange and red indicators progressively show an increasing detected signal.
  • Audible alarm – the repetition rate of the audible signal increases as the detected refrigerant concentration rises.
  • Probe light – remains green when no alarm is detected and changes colour together with the main alarm indicators when a leak is detected.
  • Zero reset (RESET) – allows the current ambient refrigerant concentration to be set as a new reference level for further leak localisation.
  • MUTE function – disables the audible alarm when visual indication alone is preferred.
  • Automatic power-off – the detector switches off automatically after approximately 15 minutes without operation.
  • Long sensor service life – approximately 2 years according to the manufacturer, calculated at about 2.5 hours of use per day.

Applications

The UT336B is intended for detecting and locating refrigerant leaks in:

  • residential and commercial air-conditioning systems;
  • automotive air-conditioning diagnostics and repair;
  • refrigerators and refrigeration equipment;
  • refrigeration installations and pipework;
  • HVAC/R service and maintenance.

During leak detection, the probe is moved slowly along pipes, connections, valves, brazed or welded joints and other potential leak points.

Compatibility and limitations

The detector is intended for halogenated refrigerants, including:

  • CFCs, e.g. R11, R12, R13, R14, R15, R500, R502;
  • HCFCs, e.g. R22, R123, R141, R142;
  • HFCs, e.g. R134a, R125, R32, R410A.

The UT336B is not a quantitative refrigerant concentration meter. Its purpose is to detect a leak and assist in locating its source using the strength of the audible and visual alarm.

The manufacturer does not specify Bluetooth, USB or app connectivity.

Construction and controls

The UT336B features a flexible probe rod that helps reach pipe connections and other confined locations. The probe incorporates a light indicator: it remains green when no alarm is present and changes colour together with the yellow, orange and red main alarm indicators when refrigerant is detected.

The controls provide power on/off, sensitivity increase and decrease, RESET and MUTE functions.

Important operating and safety notes

  • Power on the detector in an environment free of refrigerant leakage and allow the warm-up process to complete before detection.
  • If the sensor has not been used for 7 days or longer, the manufacturer recommends allowing approximately 5 minutes after power-on for the sensor to become fully stabilised before attempting to detect an extremely small leak.
  • Keep the probe free of dust, moisture and oil, as contamination may affect sensor operation.
  • If the detector alarms before the actual leak location is reached, press RESET to establish a new reference level.
  • Do not use or store the detector in high-temperature, high-humidity, flammable, explosive or strong electromagnetic environments.
  • Remove the batteries if the detector will not be used for an extended period.
