Description

Datasheet

UNI-T UT-CS07 AC/DC 1000 A Clamp Current Sensor, CAT III 1500 V

The UNI-T UT-CS07 is an external AC/DC clamp current sensor designed to extend the current measurement capability of a compatible multimeter up to 1000 A. It converts the current flowing through a conductor into a proportional voltage signal that is displayed by the connected multimeter. Its slim 35 mm jaws enable current measurements without disconnecting the circuit, including in densely wired electrical panels, inverters and solar power installations.

Key specifications: AC/DC 1–1000 A • 100 A and 1000 A ranges • 10 mV/A and 1 mV/A • 35 mm jaws • CAT III 1500 V / CAT IV 600 V

Key features

  • AC and DC current measurement – enables current measurements in both alternating-current and direct-current circuits up to 1000 A.
  • Two selectable measurement ranges – provides a 10 mV/A output ratio on the 100 A range and 1 mV/A on the 1000 A range for different current measurement requirements.
  • Slim 35 mm jaws – accommodate round conductors up to 35 mm in diameter or flat busbars up to 65 × 8 mm, facilitating measurements in confined electrical installations.
  • Non-intrusive measurement – measures current by clamping around a single conductor without disconnecting wiring or interrupting the circuit.
  • Manual zero adjustment (ZERO) – allows the initial offset to be compensated before DC current measurements.
  • Illuminated range indicators – provide a visual indication of the selected measurement range.
  • Multimeter compatibility – supports UNI-T UT117C, UT196, UT139C, UT197, UT197PV and other compatible measuring instruments.
  • Automatic power-off – switches off after approximately 20 minutes of inactivity to reduce power consumption.

Applications

The UT-CS07 is intended for electricians, electrical maintenance technicians and other technical users who need to extend the current measurement range of an existing multimeter.

Typical applications include electrical distribution cabinets, inverters, solar combiner boxes, motor supply circuits and current measurements on conductors and busbars.

Compatibility and limitations

  • Compatible UNI-T multimeters: UT117C, UT196, UT139C, UT197, UT197PV and other manufacturer-supported models.
  • Other measuring instruments: require a suitable AC/DC voltage input or a dedicated external clamp sensor mode. When using a voltage input, the instrument must support millivolt measurement, have a voltage range of at least 1 V and an input impedance greater than 1 MΩ.
  • Reading interpretation: when using a multimeter without a dedicated clamp sensor mode, calculate current using the selected 10 mV/A or 1 mV/A conversion ratio.
  • True RMS: depends on the connected multimeter. The sensor has no independent True RMS display.
  • Measurement limitations: the specified measurement interval is 1–1000 A, but rated accuracy is guaranteed only from 5% of the selected range. Readings below 1 A are not guaranteed.
  • Frequency limitation: AC current measurement is specified for 45–400 Hz.

Accuracy conditions: the specified accuracy applies at 23 ± 5 °C and a relative humidity of no more than 75%, with the measured conductor positioned at the centre of the jaws. AC accuracy is specified for sinusoidal current. Overall measurement accuracy also depends on the connected multimeter.

Design and controls

The sensor features a jaw-opening trigger, protective hand guard, rotary ZERO adjustment knob and separate POWER and RANGE buttons. Indicator lights show the power status and selected measurement range. The measurement signal is transmitted to an external multimeter through the integrated cable.

Important operating and safety notes

  • Clamp around one current-carrying conductor at a time. Enclosing multiple conductors may produce incorrect readings.
  • Position the conductor at the geometric centre of the jaws. Off-centre positioning may introduce an additional error of up to ±2.5% of the reading.
  • Adjust the ZERO control before DC current measurements.
  • Do not exceed the 1000 A current limit or the maximum AC measurement frequency of 400 Hz.
  • The output connector is designed exclusively for transmitting the sensor's voltage signal. Never apply an external AC or DC voltage to it.
  • When working on live circuits, keep your hand behind the protective guard and observe the safety category limitations of the connected multimeter.
