This universal USB 2.0 to RS422/RS485 converter requires no external power supply and is compatible with USB 2.0, RS422, and RS485 standards. It converts a USB signal into a balanced differential RS422 or RS485 signal and provides 600W line surge protection. The converter ensures high-speed transmission via minimal electrode capacitance and effective surge suppression. RS422/RS485 signals are transmitted through a DB9 male connector.

The internal converter supports automatic, zero-delay transmit/receive switching. It automatically controls the data flow direction without requiring hardware handshaking (e.g., RTS, DTR). No jumper settings are needed to switch between full-duplex (RS422) and half-duplex (RS485) modes. Plug-and-play functionality ensures compatibility with existing communication software and interface hardware.

Main Function

The USB 2.0 to RS422/RS485 converter supports the following four communication modes:

1. Point-to-point / 4-wire full-duplex
2. Point-to-multipoint / 4-wire full-duplex

For full-duplex or half-duplex communication, a termination resistor (120 ohm, 1/4W) should be connected at the end of the line to prevent signal reflection and interference.

Hardware Installation

Before installing the USB to RS485/422 interface converter, read the user manual carefully. Connect the provided communication cable to the USB port. The product uses a USB/DB9 connector as the input/output interface.

The interface automatically switches between RS422 and RS485 communication modes without jumper settings. Twisted pair or shielded cables can be used for connection:

• Four wires (T/R+, T/R-, RXD+, RXD-) for point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, full-duplex communication.
• Two wires (T/R+, T/R-) for point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, half-duplex communication.
