Description
GX591 DIY Spot Welder Kit
đ§ Product description
The GX591 DIY Spot Welder Kit is a compact, digitally controlled spot-welding module designed for joining nickel strips to lithium-ion battery cells. It is suitable for assembling, repairing and rebuilding 18650, 21700 and other cylindrical battery packs, as well as for various DIY electronics projects.
The GX591 controller provides 99 adjustable welding-power levels, allowing the welding pulse to be matched to the nickel-strip thickness, power-source capability and surface condition. A three-digit LED display shows the selected power level and the voltage of the connected power source.
The high-current switching section uses 8 power MOSFETs. The manufacturer specifies a peak pulse welding current of up to 2400 A. Actual welding performance depends on the voltage, discharge capability and internal resistance of the external battery, as well as the cable length and quality of all electrical connections.
⥠Main features
- 99-level precision welding-power adjustment
- Digital microcontroller-based operation
- Real-time power-source voltage display
- Combined spot welder and voltmeter functionality
- 8 high-current MOSFET switches
- Manufacturer-rated peak pulse current up to 2400 A
- Suitable for 0.1â0.2 mm nickel strips
- Automatic contact-triggered welding
- Adjustable welding-tip trigger delay
- Connection for an optional foot switch
- Audible operating and welding-cycle indication
- Compact design for portable DIY projects
- Very low standby power consumption
đī¸ 99-level power adjustment
The GX591 offers 99 selectable welding-power levels. Lower settings are intended for thinner strips and more sensitive cells, while higher settings provide a stronger welding pulse for thicker material or more demanding joints.
Begin with a low setting and increase the power gradually while performing test welds. Excessive power may burn through the strip, damage the battery casing or cause unnecessary heating of the electrodes.
đ Digital display and voltmeter
The integrated three-digit LED display can show:
- the selected welding-power level;
- the voltage of the connected power source;
- configuration and operating-mode information.
The controller incorporates a 12-bit high-precision ADC and can therefore also operate as a DC voltmeter. The specified voltage display resolution is up to 0.01 V.
When the power source is connected, its voltage is displayed automatically.
đŠ Welding probes and cables
The kit uses components designed for high pulse-current transfer:
- flexible 12 AWG welding cables;
- copper contact connections;
- alumina-copper alloy welding tips;
- heat-shrink insulation tubes.
Low-resistance cables and contacts help reduce electrical losses and transfer more of the pulse energy to the welding point.
đ External power source
The GX591 does not contain an integrated high-power battery. It requires an external DC source capable of supplying a very high current for a short period.
Suitable power-source types may include:
- a 12 V automotive lead-acid battery;
- a high-discharge LiPo battery;
- a low-resistance lithium battery pack;
- an automotive jump starter capable of high pulse current.
A conventional laboratory bench power supply will normally not provide enough instantaneous current for effective spot welding.
Welding performance depends on:
- battery discharge capability;
- battery internal resistance;
- battery state of charge;
- cable cross-section and length;
- contact pressure and connection quality.
đ ī¸ Operating modes
The GX591 can work in an automatic contact-detection mode. When both tips are pressed against the nickel strip, the controller detects contact and releases the welding pulse after the selected delay.
Available delay modes include:
- AU0 â welding output is activated with practically no delay;
- AU1 â welding output is activated after approximately one second.
The delay allows the operator to position and press both tips securely before the high-current pulse is released.
Some GX591 versions also provide a connector for an optional foot switch. A foot switch gives the operator manual control over the exact moment of pulse activation.
đ Typical applications
The GX591 can be used for:
- assembling 18650 battery packs;
- joining 21700 and other cylindrical cells;
- repairing electric-bicycle batteries;
- rebuilding power-tool battery packs;
- manufacturing energy-storage and portable power packs;
- welding nickel strips to battery terminals;
- mobile-device battery repair;
- educational and experimental electronics projects.

- Protect the exposed circuit board and terminals against accidental short circuits.
âšī¸ Important information
The GX591 is an electronic DIY module. Its performance depends on correct assembly, reliable low-resistance connections and a properly selected power source.
The specified 0.1â0.2 mm welding range also depends on the strip material. Pure nickel normally requires more welding energy than nickel-plated steel.
Perform several test welds on equivalent material before assembling a complete battery pack. ```
