Description
UNI-T UT220 Digital Clamp Meter, 2000 A AC, 63 mm Jaw, CAT III 1000 V
The UNI-T UT220 is a digital clamp meter designed to measure alternating current up to 2000 A without disconnecting the conductor. It also measures AC and DC voltage and resistance and provides continuity and diode testing. Its large jaw opening, automatic voltage and resistance ranging, and backlit display make it suitable for electrical installation inspection and equipment maintenance.
Key specifications: AC current up to 2000 A • AC voltage up to 750 V • DC voltage up to 1000 V • 63 mm jaw opening • CAT III 1000 V / CAT IV 600 V
Key features and benefits
- AC current measurement up to 2000 A – selectable 200 A and 2000 A ranges allow different current levels to be measured without disconnecting the conductor.
- 63 mm jaw opening – accommodates conductors up to 60 mm in diameter, including larger electrical cables.
- AC and DC voltage measurement – measures up to 750 V AC and 1000 V DC using test leads.
- Resistance, continuity and diode testing – provides additional functions for checking electrical circuits, wiring connections and electronic components.
- Automatic ranging – automatically selects the appropriate range when measuring voltage and resistance.
- MAX and HOLD functions – capture the highest observed reading or retain the current measurement on the display.
- Backlit LCD – improves readability in poorly illuminated working environments.
- CAT III 1000 V / CAT IV 600 V safety ratings – support measurements in appropriately rated electrical installations when the specified operating limits and safety precautions are observed.
Applications
The UNI-T UT220 is intended for electricians, electrical maintenance technicians and users who need to measure high AC currents. Typical applications include checking electrical distribution equipment, power supply circuits, electric motors and other AC-powered equipment.
The clamp measures current without opening the circuit. Voltage, resistance, continuity and diode measurements are performed using test leads.
Compatibility and limitations
- Clamp current measurement is available for alternating current (AC) only.
- DC current cannot be measured with the clamp.
- The meter does not support True RMS. AC measurements use an average-responding method, so accuracy may differ when measuring distorted waveforms.
- The specified AC current measurement frequency range is 50–60 Hz.
- Clamp current measurements require a single current-carrying conductor rather than an entire multicore cable.
- Frequency, capacitance and temperature measurement functions are not available.

Design and operation
The meter features a rotary function selector and dedicated function buttons. A trigger opens the clamp jaws to accommodate the conductor, while the protective handle design helps the operator maintain a safe grip.
The backlit LCD displays measurement results, selected functions and status indicators. Voltage, resistance, continuity and diode measurements use the COM and measurement input terminals.
Important operating and safety notes
- Do not exceed the 2000 A current measurement limit or the 750 V AC / 1000 V DC voltage measurement limits.
- Position the conductor as close as possible to the centre of the clamp jaws. Incorrect positioning may introduce an additional measurement error of up to 1%.
- Before measuring resistance, testing diodes or checking continuity, disconnect power from the circuit and discharge all capacitors.
- Avoid continuous high-current measurements for extended periods, as heating of the magnetic circuit may affect measurement accuracy.
- Do not use the meter if the enclosure, insulation or test leads are damaged.
